UTM Best Practices

Always use lowercase for all UTM values. Google Analytics treats "Facebook" and "facebook" as separate sources.
Replace spaces with hyphens or underscores. Use "spring-sale" instead of "spring sale" to keep URLs clean.
Be consistent with naming conventions across all campaigns. Document your taxonomy so your team stays aligned.
Use utm_content to differentiate A/B test variants or ad creatives within the same campaign.
Keep utm_campaign names descriptive but concise - "q1-2026-webinar-retarget" tells you more than "campaign3".
Never put sensitive data (emails, passwords, PII) in UTM parameters - they are visible in browser history and analytics.
